Tag! You're It!

I've been tagged by my friend Ros so I have to post 7 random/weird things about me. Hmmmm......

1. Before Nathan and I started dating, he asked me to be his date for the senior prom and I turned him down!

2. In the third grade I got a school carnival goldfish. His name was Goldie (I know, very original) and he lived for NINE years. He was so big when he died that he had to be buried rather than flushed.

3. My second toe is ever so slightly longer than my big toe for which my husband gives me endless grief. (They aren't freakishly longer - you would only notice if you really, really looked at them)

4. I've never been further west than Dallas, TX.

5. One of my dreams is to own my own little shop selling cool home stuff, like the shops on the Old Street in St. Augustine.

6. My favorite foods: ice cream! chocolate! shrimp! cucumbers! broccoli! (NOTE: These are not listed in any particular order)

7. I love watching crime dramas (ie Law and Order, CSI, etc) and reading murder mysteries, but they make me slightly afraid of the dark.

Others I would like to know more about:
Dana - A friend from work
Susan - aka the Domestic Manager
Allison - Another fabulous young CPA like me!
and Rachel, who doesn't have a blog, but should!

So, Tag, ladies! You're it!

****Breaking News*****

We interrupt this program to bring you the following message:

Austin is sporting his first tooth!

He has been teething like crazy for the past two months. Yesterday was a rough day - teething diaper rash, upset tummy, and so forth. No fever/cold - thankfully. Overnight, though, the tooth broke through. He actually has two coming in (the two bottom center) and we expect tooth number two to break through during the day today. We will be trying to get pictures of the newest additions tonight, but it may take a few days.

My precious little boy is growing up.....

And now, back to your regular programming.

Surgery, Sneezes & Cereals

(So they don't all start with "s" but they do start with the same sound!)

The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of adventures, which is why I have been mysteriously absent from the blog. The first of the adventures is the kickball injury. After almost two weeks of barely hobbling around, a friend who is a former paramedic told us that Nathan should go to the orthopedist to have his foot checked out. Nathan went and the doctor determined that Nathan had a dislocation fracture - which happens to not really be a break at all. It means that the bones in the foot where your shoelaces tie had all shifted to the right and didn't shift back into place. He put Nathan into one of those giant black boots and told Nathan to show up the next Tuesday for surgery.
Two weeks ago today, they cut Nathan's foot open and put in a screw and two "buttons" that they connect with banding to bring the bones back in line. Nathan has done excellently with the surgery. He has been a great patient except that he insisted on going back to work the day after surgery. He hasn't been able to walk, but has been doing pretty well with the crutches.
Today we went in for the follow up appointment. They took the temporary cast off, took out the stitches and let Nathan go back into the big black boot. He has to continue not putting weight on the foot for another week and then he can start putting weight on the heel only.
The fascinating thing about all of this is that according to the doctor, the way they fixed Nathan's foot is a new method. Under the old method, recovery meant being non-weight bearing for TWELVE weeks. With the new method, he will be non-weight bearing for only three weeks. Just incredible.

So, because Nathan hasn't been able to walk, I have had to assume most home duties. It has given me a HUGE appreciation for single parents. I have been getting up at 4:30am to be able to get everyone out the door by 7:15am each morning. Yuck. It is very, very tiring, but it has really made me appreciate my husband and best friend and all that he does for us each and every day.

During this whole surgery thing, I had a nasty, nasty cold. It lasted two and half weeks. Nathan also got the cold, but fortunately Austin has stayed well. We believe it is a true testament to the benefits of the antibodies he gets from breastfeeding.

In Austin news - Austin has started eating rice cereal. It has been a fun and exciting experience. He eats one serving of cereal each day at Karie's house and then another in the evening at home. Each feeding time is a bit messy, but Austin is a true champ and a great eater. We are also giving him water in a sippy cup. He drinks water great at Karie's house, but we haven't quite mastered the cup at home. He usually ends up with water all over himself.

Sweet Sleeping Boy

It is not a slight thing when those so fresh from God love us.

If one feels the need of something grand, something infinite, something that makes one feel aware of God, one need not go far to find it. I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby when it wakes in the morning and coos or laughs because it sees the sun shining on its cradle.
