The Super Duper Pooper

We are attempting to adjust to the new "norm" of being parents. Austin is eating well, as evidenced by the bounty of dirty diapers he produces! The first day a baby is born, they are supposed to have one poopy diaper. Austin is so prolific that by 3am Wednesday morning (less than 24 hours after birth), he had produced 5 poopy diapers and was dubbed the "Super Duper Pooper" by our night nurse!!

Yesterday we had our 2 week doctor's appointment with Dr. Weiss, our pediatrician. Austin weighed in at 8 lbs which is further evidence that he is eating well since breast-fed babies are supposed to regain weight up to their birth weight in 3 weeks. He is in the 75th percentile for height (still at 21 inches) and the 25th percentile for weight (ie he's long and lean). Dr. Weiss declared him perfect! He had one shot - the first hepatitis B shot and did great.

After the doctor we ran errands and during our trips around town, Austin had an EPIC blowout!! It was so bad that the pad in the car seat had to be washed when we got home! Luckily we had lots of wipes with us!
The other momentous occasion that occurred yesterday was Austin's umbilical cord fell off! Yay! A real belly button now! In a couple of days he will get to take a real bath instead of a sponge bath.
It is not a slight thing when those so fresh from God love us.

If one feels the need of something grand, something infinite, something that makes one feel aware of God, one need not go far to find it. I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby when it wakes in the morning and coos or laughs because it sees the sun shining on its cradle.
